There are two wires coming out of the manifolds( I believe they are thermostat related). The positive, runs past the starter and is not connected to anything. I cannot find another wire to plug it into, and I dont remember it laying around loose. The engine was sending an overheat alarm, we had it serviced, and now it has the loose wire. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You've left us a little lacking of info ,but I'll give it a stab. You have only one mani on this engine so I'm guessing you are refering to the cyl. heads. What color are the wires that you see dangling?

Re: Mercury 175 Xr Wiring

Sorry for the lak of information, but this is a V6 with two manifolds. The wires are brown, but the positive brown wire is the one unplugged. I is possible that this wire has never been plugged in, but I don't remember it. Thanks for your help. I ran it today and water did flow through the manifolds. If this thermostat wire is supposed to plug into something than I could get screwed if the alarm doesn't go off and I mess up the engine. Thanks.

Re: Mercury 175 Xr Wiring

The wire is just for diagnostics I believe. when at idle the pump doesn't flow water throught the engine. This is frustrating because you can't stay in idle fro more than a minute or two. Is their any way to get this thing so I will not overheat while in idle. it runs like a champ in anything but idle. Thanks.
