Hello,

Replaced my stator on my 1988 Mercury 175 last year, it works great but about 3 to 5 times a day, at idle/headway, the tac jumps and bounces at 5000 to 6000 rpm, but motor is still running at 1600/1800 rpm, I have not touched throttle, but tack and motor thinks it is running at 5000 RPM, engine runs very rough when it happes, and then it usally gets over it after about 1 or 2 minutes, then boat runs great util it happens again.

This never happened before replacing the stator.

So I think the stator may be bad or incorrect so I think I may replace it again, but in doing research, I am not sure if my stator is 15 or 16 amp, how do I determine.

New Stator Part Mercury that I put on: 398-5454A35, 15 AMP, but my old Stator has part number: 9898-5454A34?

I was thinking of purchasing a Sierra Stator, 18-5860, but some state 15 amp, others state 16 AMP.

How do I find out for sure if i have a 15 or 16 AMP.
