mercury 15hp kicker

I bought a boat from an estate and it has a 15hp merc as a kicker. I cant' imagine that the previous owner would use this motor without an electric start but I can't find any indication that it is. Am I missing something And would also like to know if it is a 2 or 4 stroke engine. It is a 2001 mod: 15M. Thanks

19 years ago 4-strokes were few and far between. To be sure just look for a dipstick and an oil drain plug. Easy to tell.

I can't imagine anyone having an electric start. Kickers are supposed to be simple. A 15 starts on 2 pulls. Needing a battery and all the wires is an unnecessary encumbrance.

If it IS electric, the starter motor connected to the flywheel is an easy way to tell.
