Mercury 150 Thermostat Install

I'm installing new thermostats in my 89 Mercury Blackmax 150. My engine didn't have them installed. I'm not sure which way the rubber O Ring goes on the T'Stat (See Pic). Which one is right ?

TStat on Right or Left?
