I run the boat into a sanbank at a very low speed today and two things happened to my outboard:
A) The engine turns but the propeller doesn't.

B) I can't move the trottle into "reverse" anymore.

I suspect I may have sheared the shear pin. Then I went to the Mercury manual and I could not find a shear pin in the schematic they show.
Any idea what I could have damaged?
How can I fix it?
Thanks.

D.Pike

Hopefully you have just spun your propeller hub which means you will need a new prop. You can verify this by putting something substantial between the prop blades and the cavitation plate.Shift the engine into forward and have your biggest bud turn the flywheel at the top of the engine with the spark plugs disconnected. If the engine turns but he prop do'es not you have a spun hub.Turn the engine clockwise only please.

Thanks hondon!
I will try that and I'll let you know what happens.
Also, does it explain somehow that the shifter will not move into reverse?
