great forum guys!

I've just bought a 17.5ft boat with a 1986 Merc 135 V6 Blackmax with oil inj. The guy who sold it to me told of his mechanic suggesting it be run with 50/1 premix in the tank despite the factory oil injection system still connected and supposedly operating. I'm guessing that the motor will run oil-rich because of this and could cause piston ring sticking. According to this mechanic, having both injection AND premix will guarantee against seizure. This guy has retired and is not available.
Any comments on this idea?, and how would be the best way to remove the system if the idea's a dud?. I'm aware it uses a gear-driven pump.
Thanks plenty
Nilsson

hey,

this is not true if you mix too much oil with your gas your performace will go down the drain. the mercury early injection systems are quite dependable
I personally have an 1989 175 black max and never had any trouble. besides if your pressure is not enough your alarm will sound. Then if necessary you can pull your oil resevior and mix it in your tank in an emergency.

If you run oil injection with premixed fuel you will get smoke...and lots of it. If you do this cold weather you will get even more smoke. You also run the chance of fowling your spark plugs with oil. If the oil injection system does work then use it. If you don't trust the injection system then remove it and premix the fuel 50:1.
