I just bought a new, 2001 125 H.P. Mercury Saltwater Series (Carb)outboard. Since day one, it has bogged, hissed, puked, etc, at WOT only. I now have 30 hours on it and the dealer has no iedea what is wrong but he has ruled out bad gas, and the plugs have been changed several times. What could cause the engine to run fine other than above 5,000 r.p.m. It sounds to me that one or more cyclinders are dropping out at WOT. Even though this will be a warranty repair, any hel would be GREATLY appreciated.

Using test harness 91-14443A1 and 91-99750 Muti-meter DVA tester, Run engine in water loaded until misfires, tester and harness will locate misfiring cylinder/s. Then using same tester you can check trigger, switchbox/powerpack, stator and coil. Ignition ok, check fuel pressure and restriction. These pns from V6 book, do not have specs for 125.

Thanks for the help. I assume an authorized Merc repair outfit has these testers. Have you heard of anything that sounds like this before? Merc thought it could be the 2plus 2 not calibrated properly or a bad stator and the dealer thought it could be a rev limiter etc. Sounds like a lot of guessing to me.
