Quick question: I was thinking of picking up a Sugar Sand "Heat" cheap. It possibly is in need of a motor. currently it has the Mercury 120 sportjet. My question it the newer Sugar Sands have 175 sportjet's in them. will the 175 mount to the jet assembly of the older 120? I have also heard that the 120's were made by a company called Force and it was just taged with the Mercury nameplate. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. as you can probably tell I'm new to this. <br />

Re: mercury 120

Traz, i can answer a few of these...in order to put in a 175 where a 120 was, you need to replace the pump, too....you basically gut the boat down to a hole in back and start over...not a cheap proposition...the 120 is very similar to the force 120 outboard powerheads, but the block, crank, and pistons are different.....best bet is repair the 120...the motors are still fairly cheap to do, and push the boat well enough...I would be concerned about what had been changed in the electrical system recently, it was the weak point of these motors...starters, stators, rev limiters, all have been upgraded over time...be a shame to have the old stuff on it yet...if it is a 120XR ,then you are past most of the electrical issues....
