I had a problem with my tilt/trim on my 1998 Mercury 115 outboard. It turned out to be the relays but in the process I removed the pump motor. I am now trying to refill with fluid but can't get the cylinder to move. What is the procedure? I understand that they are supposed to be self-purging but I just can't seem to make it work.

Help!!!

Re: Mercury 115 Outboard Tilt/Trim Refill Procedure

You can only completely fill the unit when the motor tilted all of the way up. Have someone help lift the motor as you are hitting the trim switch. If you can't get the motor to raise that way you can loosen the manual release valve on right side of the tilt assembly 2 to 3 turns and then lift the motor and lock it in the up position. Tighten the release valve and add fluid. Cycle the motor down and up a few times and check the fluid level again. Repeat as necessary.
