Since I blew a hole in the top cylinder of my '77 115hp outboard I have been trying to locate a replacement block. My question is, what range of years of the 115hp block will work with my '77 components? Or how about any 90-140hp?

Your right, a 90 - 140 will fit your leg and bolt right up as far as what year? I would stay as close to your original year as possible. Mercury made little changes over the years of the inline 6 such as water flow and little things like that and I am not sure if that could cause a problem or not.

Craig

I am rebuilding this exact motor now with a friend. He boaght the motor on a boat for about 1000, the boat and trailer were great, but we found a hole in the top of the #1 piston, so we tore it apart. It has now been welded, by pro, and is now at a machine shop getting the holes all honed, then time for new rings and 2 new pistons and it will be time for it to go back together then out to the water.

Bryan

I contacted a few places about welding the block, but nobody would touch it. One peticular person stated that he would weld it provided that the hole or any crack extending from the hole did not touch a machined surface. My block does have a crack that almost breaks through the spark plug tap. After telling him so he said he didn't want to touch it either. I have not given up on the idea though. Thanks for the responses.

I have a 73 115 inline six that I'm looking to sell. It last ran about 10 years ago and was working fine until we hit a rock in the lake. The prop shaft is slightly bent and we never got it fixed and then we got ride of the boat.

I just had it check out my Morris Count Marine in Kenvil NJ and the compression is good. I was going to put it on a patio boat I have but its only rated for 90HP.

Give me a call if you interested. Otherwise I will post for sale.

Keith 973-770-3906
