I have a merc 110 that will not stay running. It will go about 400 yards at full throd. then will die. Before it dies it starts to labor and rps cut down. If I go about quarter speed it will go about another 100 yards then the same result. I have changed the impellar and it seems to be working ok. I also have changed the hose and primer bulb. It will usually start back up and go again but then after a few times of this it has to rest. Could it be overheating? I never had a small motor so I do not want to mess it up or know what to expect. There is about a 3 week wait on repairs around here. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

When it starts to stumble, does pumping the primer bulb help? If not, does the powerhead get hot? Should be able to rest your finger on the exhaust plate while it's running. I assume you're geting a good flow of water out of the tell-tale?

------------------
Fish on! FISH ON! Holy cr*p, it's a whopper! Oh boy Oh boy! Oh, wait... It's just kelp.

Thru process of elimination, you should be able to narrow what may be possibly wrong with your motor. Fouled Plug is leading you right where you need to go first...checking the easiest, most obvious things first.

My first thought is it's fuel starved...and pumping the primer bulb when she begins to cut out as Foul suggests will force fuel to the fuel pump. Something as simple as forgetting to open the fuel vent on the remote fuel tank cap will cause your engine to do just what you describe. My buddy set his full tank on top of the fuel hose once. Uh...you didn't happen to check for that, did ya? One more thing...how old is the fuel?

I sound like a broken record here...repeating what Fouled has already said...but you really do need to ensure it's pumping water ok and not overheating!

Let us know what happens.

Walt

It seems to be pumping water real good. It also seems like it might be hot. I am not sure how hot it should get. Is there holes that the water runs thru? Or does it just run up the pump to the bottom of the motor. At first I thought it was the gas also ( which is new.) and if I pumped it it kept going now it stalls and the gas runs out into the head and out the drain holes.

Hello I just read your post on your merc 110 and I have the same exact problem. Just wondering what you found out and did you fix it. I am thinking it is the fuel pump. Let me know. metty4238@cs.com Thanks Mark
