i need info on filling my poer tilt and trim i drained it when i pulled my motor for a poerhead swap. I am not sure how to fill it or what screws to loosen to let air out, it is a mercury 1150 4859218. also i put an old power head on 75 or 76 sn starts with 46 or 47 i think. Was there no peehole on these? on my junk powerhead there was a spout coming out the top, but i have not seen one anywhere on this motor.

I presume that PTT unit has the pump in the boat? There will be a shiny silver round head slotted screw high up on the right of the pump assembly. Unscrew it and fill the pump unit with either auto trans fluid or 5W-30 motor oil. Use whatever was in it when you took it apart.

All the inline motors have telltale water outlets. Look on the cylinder head water jacket for a elbow fitting

k i know what screw you are talking about. do I need to lossen any others to allow air to escape, is there a certain level to fill it to or just fill it full? Also I have inspected this motor top to bottom I have not been able to locate the telltale/peehole the only opening i can find on the cylinder cover is the water pressure guage down at the bottom around #3 cylinder. i am guessing that it should be at the top somwhere. on my junk block it was right behind the top cowl mount, but there isn't a spot for it on here. any other thoughts from people that have this year mercs. I know JimBC has the same block.

I think I found it, looks like on the older 1150's there was a T fitting on the cylinder cover instead of a 90 degree elbow like the newer ones. another question I have is wouldn't this created a hot zone at the top of the blocks since there is no way for air to escape?

Water pressure gauge is not standard. It is likely the PO hooked the telltale to the gauge. Try installing a beass tee instead of the gauge fitting. Now install the gauge on one side of the tee and the telltale on the other side. Telltale is between cylinder 2 and 3?

Re: mercur 1150 t&t

The fitting is between cylinder 3 & 4. shouldn't the telltale fitting be on the top of the cylinder, to avoid a hot spot from air being trapped? Does water feed into the water jacket around the cylinders first then move to the exhaust side? That would eliminate air being trapped, as long as it water goes in the exhaust side from the top of the cylinder water jacket.
what is the purpose of the two fittings on the newer 1150's (top of the block and between 3 & 4 cylinder).

Also how to you bleed the hydraulic pump, to get the air out of the lines?

it will bleed its self run a little up and back down,, keep going higher each time,,, make sure you the fluid level up... the top slotted screw is fill with as Chris said,,, full level is the screw a little lower,,, ram closed and full to lower screw is proper level with air outta the system,,, the manual will give a different way to bleed system but this way works for me and others GL
