Okay please tell me I have forgotten something...I am removing the stern drive from the bellhousing, I believe the gearshift to be in forward but not certain because it is broken (hence the reason) and have removed the 6 nuts holding the drive to the bellhousing...and it will only pull out 1/2 an inch and no more...what is holding it up?

------------------
Culinarily,

Chef Mike

Re: Mercuiser OutDrive 197?

Hi,
Your stub shaft is missaligned or out of grease. To align it have a dealer do it. You have to adj the motor mounts.
To make sure you are in F look at the brass coupler in the front of the LU just above the cavatation plate in the front of the LU.
It has to be pointed to the front of the LU so it can slip out of its u shaped bracket.
Hope you can understand my poor explanition.
If and when you pry on it BE-CAREFUL the parts are spendy.

------------------
...have fun...corm

cubic inches = power
power = speed
speed = FUN

Email me if you need to.
