mercrusier lower unit will not shift

I recently replaced the impellar on my mercrusier alpha one I put the gear **** in the forward position like I was told put it back together got it out of the garage hooked up the muffs the impellar was working had water coming out of the exaust everything seemed good so I put it in gear and it would not shift so what happend.

If you only dropped the lower half of the drive, you need to pull it apart again....
Make sure the throttle is in fwd.....
Turn the prop ccw while turning the shift shaft cw & lock it in gear....
You must maintain pressure ccw on the prop to insure it remains locked in gear during assembly......
It is way easier to do the impeller with the entire drive off on a bench.....
It will also allow you to lube the ujoints & inspect the gimbal bearing like you are supposed to at least once a year........​
