Mercrusier alpha 1 goes down fine but wont go up

I have a 91' Glastron with a 5.0 V8 and Alpha drive, the drive goes down but will not go back up except for once. I checked the wires they seemed fine so is the pump bad?

Try jumpering the solinoid with a screwdriver and see if the drive will go up. According the the mercuiser parts guy he sells a lot of them. Me included its the only part i had to replace.

Do you have an Alpha I Gen II outdrive or the older style Alpha I? I can post a link to the correct manual for download with a troubleshooting chart. 91 was the changeover year, and lots of boats have an engine and drive a year older.
You could have a faulty limit switch. Does it come up with the trailer button?

I have a 1st gen Alpha...I would really appericate a manual

I have a morse control so there is no trailer button...but there is a trim tilt switch on both sides of the shifter..both work to go down but neither work to come up.

I would bet it is the limit switch or the wires going to the switch. Look betweek the bellhousing and the transom and see if the wires maybe got pinched or cut.

I also noticed that the trim only works if the key is on, i'm new to i/os but I know all my outboards it didnt matter.

So today I was out doing somethings on the boat and I started hitting the trim/tilt buttons and it worked!!! The boat had been sitting for a couple years before I bought it so i'm guessing that there was just some corrosion. Now I noticed the pump sounds funny...it sounds like a bilge pump gurgling when it is sucking up water and air, does this mean there is air in the system?

Check the oil in the trim tilt pump reservior and see if it's low. If it is, top it off and run it up and down to bleed it out.
