i need to replace the starter on a 1978 mercruiser 470. the original starter does not have the solenoid attached to the starter. is there a starter with the solenoid attached that would be compatable?

There is, but your slave is different from the newer models with an add'l starter mounted solenoid. I believe you'd have to replace the slave as well--not sure what other wiring would be involved.

Unfortunatley this is a counter clockwise rotation. Mine is clockwise rotation.

Are you thinking engine or starter motor direction of rotation? The engine is CW, but the starter should be CCW.... (it spins CCW to run the engine CW)...

The 470 is CCW engine (looking at the back of the flywheel forward) and CW starter.
