These things are so new I am having a hard time finding any info on them. I can't find any threads of people having issues with them which I would assume is good. I would like to have some idea how long they will last before they have to be replaced etc. I would love to know is if when they need replacing if I can just put on the normal manifolds and risers. Anyone have any info on these?

there isn't a lot of info on them yet because they are so new.... as far as how long they will last, nobody really has that answer the tech at the dealer said 8 years but who knows (when you think about it a catalytic converter last a long time in a car) but in a boat they mileage may vary.

I don't think you can just swap them out to regular risers n' manifolds because of the o2 sensors. my advice is if your looking at a new boat try to get one without them and wait until they have been on the market for a few more years.

Re: Mercruiser with catalytic converter

I doubt converting will be a simple process. There is 4 O2 sensors and two temp sensors not found in the old style manifolds. Those 6 sensors feed information to your PCM, without that info, you probably won't have a very good running engine.

How long the last? They have only been in use since late 09, early 2010, so wearing out probably hasn't happened to anyone yet.

Re: Mercruiser with catalytic converter

you cannot run a catalyzed engine without a catalyst in place

the pcm needs to see information from the sensors based on pre and post catalyst exhaust, otherwise mulitple codes/faults will be set and the eninge will run poorly or not at all

as far as info from owners on catalyzed engines i doubt you will find much as most or all of these engines are still under warranty and issues are resolved at dealerships - also the diagnostic tools required for catalyzed engines are quite specific and not designed for the "everyman" to utilize for troubleshooting

Well I guess on the bright side CO emissions on these motors are down 70-90% according to boattest.com. I guess that is good for a cruiser.

So far the biggest problem seems to be weeds plugging up the cooling to the cats.
I’m guessing some sort of strainer system will have to be developed.

I am sure you could use "emulators" to fool the ECU into thinking the sensors are operating properly by basically having a resistor in the wiring harness. They are commonly used with autos that have had the cats removed for whatever reason. The ECU would just see the emulator reporting back a value close to stoic, and would run in normal fuel mode. Granted it's not really "emissions legal", but I would imagine that would be the simple way to do a non-cat retrofit.

If it is not illegal to do so it would entail swithcing over to a new ecm and exhaust stem. I have no ideal of the cat cost but 1800 should get you out of those thing's. But you could still make use of the os sensors...it would be a intresting conversion.
