Hi there.

I recently bought a 2007 Sea Ray 270 SLX. I am unable to confirm if the engine is a 5.7 or 6.2 as the serial number rusted off. I believe all Sea Ray 270 SLX in 2007 came with the 6.2 but could be wrong. My mechanic tells me he think it is a 5.7 but not 100% sure, I also believe there is a possibility that it is not the original engine. How would I be able to confirm if it is a 5.7 or 6.2. It does not have the plastic cover at the top anymore and the previous owner installed a Volvo penta airlifter for some reason. It's got a Bravo III drive.

What pitch prop do you have and what is the performance of your boat? Eg. Speed vs. RPMs. Also what is the weight of your boat? And is it carbed or MPI? The 5.7 and 6.2's can use all the same external parts, many times its the internals that are the only difference. The performance can usually tell though...

This won’t help if engine was replaced but if you have the original documentation that came from dealer when boat was new it will have the engine and drive serials in a merc book

Both of my boats that I bought used had a big envelope that came with them with a bunch of documentation. Most of it was useless but this looked like a merc booklet supplied to boat builder with the power package
