can you change older mercruiser engines so they have the water drain valve like the new ones?

I have a 1995 5.0lx with and alpha one drive. I got a new mercruiser brochure and it shows the new engines have either a turn valve or an air pump to get water out so you can extend your boating season.

I don't want to spend a whole lot of money, but I thought maybe it would be simple like just replacing a hose coupling with a valve. did mercruiser redesign their complete cooling system?

Kevin, this is not an easy thing to do, and not a very smart thing either..anybody that has winterized boats in freezing climates knows that drains on blocks an manifolds plug up with sand, rust,etc....the only way to know if you are getting water out of a vital [and expensive] component is to pull the drain plug an watch the water come out...what is to keep a hose/drain fitting from plugging up and not draining? and you still see water coming out of the 'single point' and think everything is ok?...think about this for a moment... was this dreamed up by the engineers? or marketing?...I'll bet on 2 things...the single point system will help sell product, and it will also help sell blocks and manifolds from freeze cracking.....
