Mercruiser trim confusion - pur/wh trailer switch wire same as limit pur/wh bullet - why?

Have a 2000 maxum with twin controls. I know HOW trim wires work, but I cannot explain why the pur/wh limit switch bullet wire at the transom is connected to the TRAILER switch up front? Makes no sense. Surely the trailer switch pur/wh should be a power source and NOT the same as the pur/wh at the trim limit bullet?

If I remove the pur/wh and hook up a 12v + source the trailer buttons works - with the pur/wh spliced wires in nothing, not even with key one.

Where "should" the pur/wh gets its power from usually?

So, if I’ve read you right…all I’d say is that the transom trim switch is obviously not for the same function, as the other switch at the helm. You wouldn’t be requiring it to be used in the trimming range of movement. Like the helm control would be. Hopefully anyway. Haha.

Just found this on another thread which confirms my suspicions someone messed up the wiring -

"OK well something is screwed up:confused:. The purple white wire in the back should come from the control handle trim up switch,"

https://forums.iboats.com/threads/mercruiser-trim-tilt-wiring.421691/

Fwiw i have it working, Im just going to remove the pur/wh wires at the trailer switch, and run a 20a fuse from up front somewhere to a hot source.

Ayuh,..... The pur/ wh wire is supposed to by-pass the trailer switch,.....
The trailer switch should be red for power, blue for up, 'n green for down,....

in this thread there is a diagram you can see how the trailer switch bypasses the trim limit switch before getting to the trim up solenoid
