Hi,

I got a decepid boat with a trailer I bought and I'm trying to identify a mercruiser transom/drive unit/outdrive so I can sell it and recoup some cost.

Actually, I don't even know what the correct terms are for the parts, so I've included 2 pictures below. They are the 2 parts that bolt together through the transom for connecting the engine and the outdrive.

The serial number on the part on the inside of the boat is 0B716644.
The serial number on the part on the outside of the boat is 0B474874

The only reference to these I have found is that the inside part is a Bravo One/Two/Three. I'm trying to sell this piece so identifying the model is important.

Any help appreciated. Thanks,

Paul

Ayuh,... It Ain't a Bravo,...

It appears to be a MR, or possibly an early Alpha 1...

Just to keep things understandable, those serial numbers are for a 1987 drive and transom shield. Unfortunately, Merc forgot to change the name from MC1 iin their parts programs. MC1 is what we call the One Drive or by many, the "Pre Alpha" drive ) which were used up to 1983. In 83, the drives were changed and called R drives or basically a One drive redesign (ie R ), then in 85 it changed to MR (Mercruiser Redesign) then in 86, the Alpha I outdrive was born. NOTE: there was no Alpha I Gen I design, just Alpha I. Then in 91 the present Alpha I Gen II drive came out.
One more note. as you read the above, you see that the R and MR drives are both "Pre Alpha" which is why the name "Pre Alpha" doesn't really explain which drive you have, only that it was older than an Alpha.

Ok, so much for the history lesson.

Hmmm, I replied a few days ago, but it didn't appear here. Hopefully this does.

Thanks everyone for the help, I really appreciate it!

So what I have there is a 1987 Alpha 1 drive unit and transom plate (I hope those the right words for the 2 parts)
