I just picked up a 1983 Searay Amberjack 255 with a 454 and a TR drive. The only bad thing I can find about these is the rarity of parts, that being said I'm on a mission to get some spare parts. I've found a used lower unit but its a left hand rotation and mine is a right, now because the shifting happens in transmission and not the drive does that mean that the drives are universal??? the answer to that and any other info on these drives would be great, Thanks -Russ

You have the bw or mcm tranny to shift and they can not be run shifted in reverse the same as fw to compensate the rotation.!!!!
Either you find a rh lower or you can use the lh lower and find a lh prop ;) The only minor thing could be that the boat leans more the other side due to the different rotation torque.

Frank- Thats pretty much what I came up with so all I would need is a leftie prop, I found a place, KC marine that knows quite a bit about these, he said that the TR is the toughest thing ever built by mercruiser and not to worry about the drive just take good care of the tranny, he says these drives can handle 800+ HP so I think I'm just going to use it and not sweat getting a pile of spare parts like I do everything else

Send me a PM with email. I have the manual (all actually) on my google drive and they are shared if you have the link.

The TR can deal with the 454 easily.
Change tranny oil once a season..dont cost much compare to rebuild.
Good luck!!
