mercruiser thermostat housing

last fall when winterizing my 91 3.0l mercruiser one of the bolts that hold on the thermostat cover broke,while drilling out the stud the drill broke what a mess now.i think it would be easier and less headache to just replace the whole housing,80.00 for the parts.my question is this a hard job,the bolts that hold the housing appear to have a star like format,not a standard size socket.Thanks for help.also have these been known to break also

Any bolt can break, I'd spray some Kroil on it & let it soak in before proceeding....;)

Ayuh,....

If it has 8 points,.... It requires a Torx socket,.....
If it has 12 points,..... It needs a 12 point socket......
