I’ve got two boats. An 88 17’ Larson open bow with a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder mercruiser and a 92 18’ Sea Ray Open bow with a 4.3 liter v6 mercruiser. Boat boats and engines are in great shape and run excellent. I’m considering swapping the 4.3 from the Sea Ray into Larson. The build quality of Larson is superior to the Sea Ray by far. Hand laid vs chopper gun and the V6 would really move the Larson. I know this would devalue the Sea Ray but I’ve got so little into it I think I could break even. Any thoughts on this? Swapping engines, out drives, piping, power steering, etc? Thanks.

The 88 will be a gen 1 and the 92 will be a gen 2 so go prop to pulley swap. I believe there are a couple holes in the keyhole that might be different and of course the motor mounts will need to be fabbed. If it were me I would sell both and buy the boat you want.

My two Sea rays have both held up well especially the interiors, but hard to say in that size boat one is better than the other.

Did you check to see if the stringers are there in the Larson for side mounts vs the front mount of the 2.5? Is the cowling wide Enough for a V6? Did you consider looking for a rotten boat with a V6 or complete V6 power package take out rather than taking apart a great running boat that's in good shape?
