Does anyone know if a mercruiser stern drive could be bolted to a omc set up. I have a merc sterndrive that works and a omc that need repair.

Take off the OMC from the engine back. Get two aluminum plates 1/4 thick the size it takes to cover the hole left in the transom , plus 2 in, place plates over the hole inside and out. Seal plates with 5300 and thru SS bolts to hold in place. Drill a 1/4 hole in the middle of the outboard plate fill with high density foam. Get Merc template and cut new hole in transom. Install Merc componets and reinstall engine in new positon with new Merc coupler and new front Merc engine mounts. Get new inboard risers to match exsisting exhaust and run exhaust thru the hull. I've done it. You have to have a installation guide from Merc to get all the right dimensions. I've simplfied this explanation but you should get the crux of it. Oh! Make a plate to put over the inboard exhaust hole in the transom or buy one. Put new Merc linkage your exsisting Carb.Make a plate and attach on exhaust manifold and install carb and shift linkage. Bam!

Oh! The trim system needs to be Cobra to convert. The old stringer system I'm not sure of.

If you have an OMC Cobra, supposedly Volvo makes a kit so that you can mount a late model Volvo SX on the Cobra transom shield--this would probably be the best way to re-power an OMC.
