Also depends on access in the engine compartment, if you are having it done and not doing it yourself. Some boats are easy, some are very difficult. It all depends on how the structure of the boat is designed around the engine.
I've used ARCO aftermarket starters with no problems. One of the better aftermarket brands IMO.
In my boat I remove the rear seat on the starboard side and the battery on that side, then it's not too bad of job. The PMGR starters are much lighter/smaller than the old direct drive Delco style as you can see in the pic.
