How much should I expect to pay for a Mercruiser starter replacement on a 350ci Chaparral deck boat?

Depends on if it's direct drive or PMGR

Depends on if it's for a 153 tooth flywheel (straight across) or 168 tooth (staggered)

Depends if you are buying from GM or paying the markup thru Mercruiser, or from Arco, Remy, etc

What year is the engine/boat?
Does it seem there’s enough room to get down by the starter to work or does the engine appear it needs to come up or out of the boat to get down there if it’s a stern drive type propulsion.

As an example it sort of looks like generally an Merc OEM starter is running in the $320.00 range at the moment but depends on your engine year and more importantly the engine serial number.

Get Mercruiser. Guy before me put aftermarket crap. Starter always made whine after it started. Bottom line Aftermarket garbage mounting holes were 1/16" off vs OEM. Even had to grind shoulders of mounting bolts. Went back to OEM perfect. That was 3 years ago

Also depends on access in the engine compartment, if you are having it done and not doing it yourself. Some boats are easy, some are very difficult. It all depends on how the structure of the boat is designed around the engine.
I've used ARCO aftermarket starters with no problems. One of the better aftermarket brands IMO.
In my boat I remove the rear seat on the starboard side and the battery on that side, then it's not too bad of job. The PMGR starters are much lighter/smaller than the old direct drive Delco style as you can see in the pic.
