I am replacing my shift interrrupter switch on my 1987 Seaswirl tempo. They do not make this part anymore but I have noticed that they have a new version that is supposed to replace the oem switch. Does anyone know if this new version works? If so is there any other parts you would have to get to use it?

the old one was a NO and closed when moved causing a ground to be placed on the neg side of the coil.I believe the newer type is a NC and should be wired in series with the pos side of the coil to interrupt the voltage

What engine? I was under the impression that the switch is NLA and that a whole alternate switch plate needed to be ordered. I didn't think that function of the switch had changed though?

I’m sorry to sound ignorant but I was just given this boat and don’t know a whole lot about boats. I was told that this switch was the problem with the shifting of the boat. I really appreciate your input but I really don’t understand what you’re saying. Will the new switch work? I’m sure I can figure out how to do it but wiring it in series I don’t understand what you mean.

Read up in the stickies about how the shift interrupter switch works. If you are having shifter problems, the switch is not likely the problem. Typically shifting issues are due to a worn lower shift cable, but post your engine and problem that you're having

Your current switch may be good. Most times when the switch activates and stops the engine when shifting in or out of gear there is a problem with the shift cable in the drive.
