I just purchased a set of risers and manifilolds for two 1998 7,4 MPI engines. The risers came with the following "note" <<<Mercruiser did away with 1/8" drain at bottom of Elbow, so if owner is feeding a dripless shaft log (inboard boats only) he will need to pull cooling water from another location.>>> Does anybody know how this can be adressd? How would I be able to determine if I do indeed have dripless shafts and if so......where from and how else can I pull water to cool them? Tnx in advance

I guess the first question is do you have straight inboards or do you have outdrives?

Inboards (V-drives) I checked the risers once again today. It appears that the 1/8 inch outlets that they were referring to are plugged so I would imagine it would be a "non issue" Thanls again

Re: Mercruiser risers

Another quick question I am in the process tearing my second engine apart.........Could I actually have a blown head gasket if I have never has an overheating issue? The only reason I am asking this is because I am wondering if I may have had water intentionally put in my engine over the winter. It ran great last year..has good compression in all cylinders. I am changing the risers and manifolds as of now...Just wondering if I should pull the intake manifold etc... and the heads off also. I found a washer and a machine screw (that had no buisness being in with the rockers right where my oilf-fill cap is in the the first engine which makes me a bit suspicious) The piston walls all seem to be in good shape.(scope) and am just wondering if I may have been a victim of vandalism. Both of my gas tanks had also been syphoned. Are there any other tell tale syptoms other than water being in the oil? Like I said, I have never had any type of overheating issue. Always has run at 170* Tnx in advance

How much water in the oil? is the oil WAY over filled (2 or 3 qts?) or is it less than a cup?

Closed cooled or raw water?
