Mercruiser R Drive. What kind of lube?

Its a 1983 120 with R drive (im Told) What's recommended/best? I can get Quicksilver High Performance locally or just use 80w90? The stuff that came out was a very nice green color.

Ayuh,... 80W-90 hypoid gear oil will work, but I prefer Syn-oil...

I use Mobil 1, 75W-90 myself...

Can i use syn with such old seals? Did you have to get the Mobile from a marina? What's a hypoid?

I bought Penzoil 80w90 before I questioned it. I'd rather go expensive on the lube if it'll be better for it. If not then 80w90

Hypoid gear oil is what you bought...
Penzoil sells the same oil as the Mobil 1, if ya look for it...

If the seals leak, it Ain't the oil's fault...

Don't forget, you can also use the Mercruiser Hi Performance gear lube as recommended by Merc. It's also a wally world.

Mercruiser Hi Performance gear lube as recommended by Merc. It's also a wally world.

Some of them.............. Puyallup and Bonney Lake WM Don't carry it
