Took the boat out this morning and the power steering went out. Looked in the reservoir and noticed it was almost bone dry. What the heck? There was fluid in the rear of the compartment. Can anyone send me a diagram of the power steering layout or provide possible solutions to fix this thing. I have the Mercruiser 5.7L 350cid with the thunderbolt ignition. Engine number of269544.

If the fluid is not in the bilge. It went out thru your oil cooler for your power steering.

In some shape, form or fashion it was in the bilge. It was all over the fan hose and when I turned the bilge pump on, I noticed an irredescent (sp) glow in the water. I am assuming this is where it wound up. How can I troubleshoot and fix this?

Re: MERCRUISER POWER STEERING

the power steering runs; high presure from the pump, through the high pres. line to the steering unit on the transom assembly... low presure return line runs from steering unit to the P/S cooler mounted in the raw water feed line, on to the return side of the pump.....<br />fill the pump, start it up,+ LOOK for the leak.... there are only three pieces to the system, along with the hoses.... shouldn't be too hard to find the leak....

Re: MERCRUISER POWER STEERING

Thanks a lot. Sounds pretty simple. (Famous last words) Hopefully I can fix it and save myself about $200. :)
