mercruiser overheated ???? kinked water hose ???

the other day my mercruiser alpha one 3.0 overheated. after i got it home, i noticed the water hose next to the bellows was kinked. i hooked the muffs up and flushed it and a it seemed to kinda work but not really. i put it in the lake again and it over heated. first, if its only the water hose, is it possible to replace it without taking any bellows off, and second, is it an impellor issue. if so, where is it so i can replace it.

The water hose has to be a specific length. Too long and it will kink.

Happens when a DIYer that doesn't know what they're doing does the work.

if its only the water hose,

if it's kinked, that needs to be addressed.

is it possible to replace it without taking any bellows off,

when i replaced mine, i had to remove the bellhousing. mine's a mercruiser 1 drive which is similar to your alpha1. i've heard some folks say they can do it w/o removing the bellhousing and bellows, but i don't see how.

and second, is it an impellor issue.

usually 1st, it's an impeller issue. for over heats, that's the first suspect, in your case with the kinked hose. well. might as well do both, then you'll know your gonna be hip. impeller replacement requires seperateing the upper from the lower stern drive unit. you need to go the adults only stick and then go get #6 service manual. then you'll have the info ya need to service your sterndrive...

that length is 13 3/4'' - 14''. think i went with 13 7/8''... be sure it's on both nipples fully for proper install too... i've R&R that hose twice on mine. putting it on the gimble houseing first then the bellhousing worked much better for me...
