Mercruiser outdrive (what model)

I have a mercruiser outdrive that came off a Bayliner Saratoga 24'. This baby was in bad shape and was junked I ended up with the outdrive and was just wondered if the pool of knowledge out there could tell me what model name this outdrive would have(Alpha 1 or 2 or??) The bayliner had twin 120 mercruiser with merc outdrives and the age was a 1974 to 1978. <br />Thanks again

hi bob, if the drive is original to that model year it isn't even an alpha at all .it is a "I" drive or #1 drive , one in the same. alpha came about in 1985

I had a 73 Larson with a 302 ford. The outdrive was a "888" model. Popular back then.

if they are 74 to 79 they're mod#1s..1.98/1 gear ratio...same as the outdrive on a 888(1.5/1ratio)... 888 just means it's ford power... still mod #1 drives... alpha 1s came out in 85....
