Mercruiser outdrive waterpump kit ??

I just purchased a 1986 Wellcraft American 190 with a 170 mercruiser engine and want to changed the water pump in the Alpha leg because I have no real history on the boat but not sure what kit to order. Ive read just enough to know there is different generations and variations of the Alpha and my serial # is worn off so all I have on the leg is Alpha one. Any help on what to order would be great.

I have an 88 Cobia Cuddy cruiser w a 470 and it was told to me that anything previous to I believe 90 was an Alpha ? Don't quote me but that it was all just Alpha no variations . The 165,170,3.7l, n 470 were all variations of the same engine but the outdrives were alpha based on year so by year of the boat you should have an Alpha. Take some photos so we can see what your into here. I am sure the guys that know a bit more than me will chime a bit later to help out here. Being an alpha your gear ratio will be 1:84:1 as well. Ratio is measured in the top end of the outdrive not the bottom. Make sure you inspect everything and if you come across anything that looks " weird" to you take a photo upload it and let the guys check it out. Welcome to iboats and good luck, Vince

Kenny do you know the year that Mercruiser began the next variation of drives or was it based on engine and year ? I wanted to be safe about the info I have.

You have an Alpha One, the only other Alpha I, was the Gen II and they didn't come out until 91.
You probably only want the impeller kit, which is Oem PN 47-89984Q 5
Do not just buy the impeller, you must replace the gaskets to prevent air leaks.
