Looking for a little advice or tips/tricks on how to get to the oil filter to get it off on a Mercruiser 4.3LX.
It's in a'97 Regal Destiny 200.
The boat is huge, but I can't seem to find a way to get my 240lb. self in there to get to the filter.

Any tips or tricks?

I have ask my son or grand son for those hard to reach spots, otherwise you have to start removing things so you can get at it. Isn't the remote oil filter mounted on the port side front of the motor?

I wish I had the remote oil filter, but unfortunately I don't.
I have thought about possibly adding one, but seems that it is just one more point that could possibly fail... so I'm a little uneasy about it.

Agree it's another point for a failure, but sure makes it easy to change the oil filer. Only had one start to leak over all the boats and it was on a fitting on the oil cooler of a 7.4 MPI Horizon. Add one and never have to be a Houdini in that area again

first thought - lay an old pillow over the spark arrestor, lay over the motor, swear alot, use a strap wrench, drop oil filter in bilge, swear some more

post a pic, maybe we can see somethign that may help.

Ayuh,.... Once the filter is cracked Loose, slip a qt. size plastic baggie 'round it, spin it off, 'n drop it into the baggie,....

Much less spilt oil that way,....

Just like changin' a fuel filter,...

Get the remote. It makes it so easy. If you do get one get the kind that has the filter hanging down. What I do is put a bag around the filter and loosen it and spin it off until it falls in the bag.

Even if ya get the remote filter with the filter on top, It won't make a mess if ya poke a hole in the filter first. The oil will drain down. I just poke the hole, go about removing the engine oil and inspect the clamp's and stuff, then stuff a rag around the housing,, just in case there is a small spillage. Remove it and replace.
