Mercruiser manifolds, what's the difference.

I have a Mercruiser 327 motor for which I am looking for exhaust manifolds. There are mainly 2 versions, center risers and end of manifold. What is the reason for it. I assume the one at the end of motor will connect to the Y pipe right below, so they should be better. Otherwise with center rising I will need an elbow above Y pipe, right ? Also will a rear motor mount/flywheel cover for a Mercruiser 140 be used on a V8 ?

Thanks.

Val

center risers are better. It would take me about an hour to type out why. Just look at any newer boat with a V8 and all you will see are centers

Valv, stick with the log manifolds and correct elbows...the center riser manifolds do flow more air, but it wont make any difference to a 327 with the exhaust out the prop.....you simply aren't moving enough air through the motor to make a difference....besides, with the stock log style manifolds you will still have the slave solenoid mount on the starboard manifold, and more importantly, the alternator mount on the port side. and when you change to center riser manifolds, you are gonna have an extra pair of hoses hangin off the therm housing...need to change that, too....

ODDD1, I think I might invite you for lunch on a weekend, since you are my "personal technician" now. While you come for lunch, you won't mind bringing some tools and parts, won't you ? I promise I won't brag about the Vikings last week.... :D

Ok, jokes aside, thank you again for your help. You'll see plenty of weird/dumb/strange/ackward questions from me before the boat will float...

Val

Dang...and I just tossed out a perfectly good (used) starboard rear riser Merc V-8 manifold too... Oh well, for what it would cost to ship it to ya...you could probably buy a new one..

Valv...it sounds like you're doing a similar major rebuild/overhaul/recondition/revamp that I just spent the past 3 years doing. Hey, from one idiot to another...have fun and good luck!!! hee, hee....

Walt

PS....it was well worth it.
