I recently bought a 1971 Tom Sawyer I/O boat and put in a 305 mercruiser. I can not get any fire and can't figure out the cause.I've been told that there may be a safety reset switch but can't locate it?

Have you tried replacing the points? If they are over a year old, they should be replaced anyway. Doing a full tuneup each year is the only way to go with a boat.

yes, there is power to the postive of the coil. It does everything but spark, including turnover. Does a wire run from the negative side of the coil directly to the distributor??? It turns over, but does not throw a spark. I just ordered a full distributor tune up kit from this site, no one local ((o'reillys, etc.) could get one for me. Where is the sfety reset switch (not sure exact name) located? I can't find one? New to boats, but love to fish and ski with family, just wanna get it in the water! HELP!

Well,......
There should be 2 wires on the (-) side of the coil..........
1 goes to the Points(or dist., if it's electronic).........
And there should be 1 going to the Shift-Interupt Switch...............

Is/are the assessories(dist. carb. manifolds, etc.) on this motor of a 1971 vintage Also ?????
That's a New 1 on Me..........

The only thing thats origional are the exhaust manifolds, the motor is 1 year old and the outdrive is most likely origional. I'm not sure of anything else. The distributor is a mallory and may be origional, but I purchased a complete tune up kit for that...just got it a couple of hours ago from the UPS guy.
