Will the distributor from a 305 fit into a 350 correctly? Doing an engine swap due to it being full of vanilla ice cream. Going with a reman long block and was hoping to take most everything from the 305 and bolt it straight to the 350 with the exception of a new intake, manifolds and risers. It’s a 2001 TAHOE Q7.

Yes it will. The distributor should fit all SBCs. Big blocks too I believe? I have a 350 and the distributor was originally from a 305.

I have a distributor question too...

As I understand it, in a right hand rotation 350, the camshaft is gear driven from the crankshaft, so the camshaft - and therefore also the oil pump and distributor - turn the same way as in a standard rotation engine? Only the crankshaft rotates the opposite direction?

So if I'm understanding it correctly, the same distributor will work in a right hand or left hand engine?

Thanks,
Richard

Correct on the dist and oil pump , incorrect on the cam.
Thank you, but that leaves me a little more confused :-(

This sketch illustrates how I understood that the Crank and Cam shafts are connected in a standard and R/H engine. The crank rotates in the opposite direction, but the camshaft in the same direction. The cams are laid out differently for the different firing order, but the direction of rotation is the same.

However, if I'm incorrect about the camshaft turning in the same direction, how are they connected and how does a camshaft turning the opposite direction turn a distributor in the same direction?

Thanks in advance - I don't have a lot of experience with R/H rotation engines.
