First time replacing replacing distributor cap on a Mercruiser 1999 5.0L 305CID with Thunderbolt ignition.
I followed the markings on the distributor cap for the wires. I used the REV markings and looking from the top of the cap, the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 reading counter clock wise.
The engine did not start. I looked in the manual and the manual shows a clockwise rotation with the same firing order. It also shows the #1 cylinder on the left. So the diagram must be looking from the top?.
I am confused. Which is right the cap (CCW rotation) REV markings or the Seloc repair manual diagram (CW rotation)?
Wife dumped the old cap and rotor (looked like a spider!)
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks, Andrew
