Does anyone know where the Neutral Safety is on this motor. I think either it is bad or the wires connecting to it from the harness are loose. Its a new boat - 2006 w 30 hours. ( Chapparal w Dual motors )

MERCRUISER (1.7 MS 120 WPS)
Serial Number: 88110205

I have a port motor that will not start - no click, nothing. Battery good, starter will jump at starter motor, no ignition power to slave relay when I turn key, test light lights up on the 'start' terminal at the Key switch when turned to start - so we have power going down the line when the key turns.

I have checked out the diagrams on mercury parts express with the above serial number, but cant seem to see the neutral safety.

I have a feeling its the neutral safety connection between the harness and the switch, but I can find it !!

I have a quicksilver dual remote console mounted at the helm ( newest model ) and according to the diagram on same website, there is no neutral safety in that remote, apart from the emergency cut off switch attached to the laynard, which is not the issue here.

If it's an inboard, the neutral switch is probably on the transmission.

You have power at the start terminal, But what about the run terminal?

Do you have power to the fuel selinoid?

Power at the run and start at the key. Power in and out of the Port motor Circuit Breaker ( on a circuit breaker panel by Helm ) - this breaker did not trip.

When I turn key to first position, all the gauges light up, voltmeter gauge shows reading as do temp and oil preassure gauges.

Try to start motor ( key @ second position ) - nothing. Not even a little movement on the voltmeter gauge.

The installation manual with the motor shows a picture of two wires from the wire harness connecting to two wires coming from this neutral safety switch -There are no images of the neutral safey to give me a hint as to where it may be on the motor, or no images of where around on the motor these wires may be so I could examine the connection.

I have looked all around the starter area and shift bracket area and looked behind the motor as best I can without having to remove anything.

There is also a starter relay in the circuit.

He has Alpha I Gen II outdrives. Neutral safety switch is in the shift/throttle control.

Don - Thanks for the diagram.

My shift control is the REMOTE CONTROL 4500 CONSOLE (DUAL) and the diagram for that control on the dougrussell.com website do not show a neutral safety.

I do have the alpha 2 outdrives.
