Mercruiser coupler

I bought a boat and in the process of changing a gimbal bearing on an alpha 1 gen 2. . I did notice that the splined shaft/coupler swivels around with ball bearings. Has anyone seen this before. And who makes it. Sorry for pics. Best I can get.

Might not fully understand but the gimbal bearing does move around.

A new one is real stiff and an old one will have a bit more play but should not be sloppy
