Hello All. I recently had a loud squeak coming from my mercruiser 2001 5.7 bravo at idle. At higher rpm's the sound went away. I tried to tighten the serpentine belt but the tensioner was as tight as it would go and the belt seemed to be slightly loose (about 1 1/2" deflection with normal thumb pressure). I replaced the belt as well as both the idler pulleys. The sound is now gone, however I noticed that the sea water pump pulley appears to be slightly out of aligment. The pump assembly is bolted to a bracket which is in turn bolted to the engine. Everything appears to be tight. Could this be causing any premature wear on the belt? Is there anyway to align this pulley? The bracket seems tight, just slightly misaligned.

Yes misalignment will lead to belt and pulley wear.

How did this become misaligned and how is it fixed? Is the mounting bracket faulty or can it be adjusted somehow? Should I buy a new bracket and re-install?

No adjustment to that bracket from Mercruiser. So, it's either an optical illusion, or it got bent somehow.
