So after the replacement of fuel filter & fuel pump (DIY) , plugs, wires, dist cap, outdrive service, tune-up ,and rebuild of the carb?,(at the marina) the boat starts fine cold, idles fine, and proceeds out of the cove at no wake speed.
Few runs around the lake and the boat wants to cut out when backed down to idle. Starts back up fine. Proceeds at no wake speed into dock. Pick up new skiers out of cove couple more runs.
Back down to idle cuts out. Starts up but will not proceed at no wake speed must give it ? throttle fast or cuts out again. Will not run in reverse cuts out. In forward if you give it the ? throttle fast and then back down it sometimes runs sometimes cuts out.
This morning opened up the idle screw 1 turn. Idled cold at 1000 RPM as the engine warmed the rpm jumped to 1300 then settled back down at 1000. I let it idle for 10 min steady at 1000 rpm. Engine temp at 175 proceeded out of the cove in reverse to get away from the dock then at no wake speed. No problems. Couple runs around the lake mostly at ? throttle. Did go up to full throttle briefly and hit 4500 RPM. Came back down to no wake ran for a little, then down to idle - ok. Now idling at 700 to 800 rpm
Took another couple runs around the lake drop down to no wake cuts out. Starts back up and need to give it ? throttle to get it to run with out stalling.
Notes:
Full tank of gas treated with Sta-bil.
From what I read there is supposed to be a no tamper cap on the idle screw that was not there so I guess this has been adjusted previously. I noticed condensation on the carb. This may be normal; I just have never noticed it before? Through this whole exercise the engine temp gauge never went over 175.
Could this be a simple adjustment to find the correct idle screw position, why does it seem to run well at slow speeds cold but as the engine heats up the low speeds stall it out?
