I just bought a 1978 19' Angler (Grady White) and I think the points are stuck. I can buy new ones but no one knows the gap for the points or plug - or any specs as far as it goes. Anyone have experience with this? The distributor is Mercury. Thanks

Well, the old standby was using a paper matchbook .about .017-.018 insert between the points to a slight drag.
Double it for the sparkplugs .034 - .036

There were 4 different distributors that came in the Ford engines. Mallory, Prestolite, Ford & Holley. Make sure you get the right points & condenser, Get them from a Mercruiser dealer or match them at a NAPA store. Do not buy any of those parts from the "Big Box" auto store. 035 on the plugs and .018 on the points for all 4 distributors.
