I have a mercruiser 502 with bravo 1 drives. Everything was going fine until I started it up (with muffs on) yesterday and the water was no longer coming out of my exhaust ports. I didn't let it get up to temp for fear of buring up the motor. Is this an impeller/pump problems. I ran it for a solid 30+ secs and usually water is shooting out after 3-4 secs. Water didnt appear to be drawn in from the muffs. Thanks

Did you have the water on with enough pressure? How long has it been since you replaced the impeller in your pump? If it has been more than two years, it's time for a new impeller anyway.

Impreller was just serviced and the water pressure from the hose was on full. Just last week the muffs were sucked tight onto the intake and water was coming out of the exhaust nicely. It only sat for a week. I recently had the skeg rewelded and they disassembled the gear housing to prevent melting the seals with. Everything worked after that fine and that was 2 weeks ago.

Howdy,

When I replaced the impeller on my 454/Bravo, I found the remnants of the previous impeller failure crammed into the oil cooler. It's very possible that you have "stuff" blocking the raw water flow in the oil cooler from more than one previous failure.

Cheers,

look at some of the other posts about impellar problems and you will see that this is very common problem and not a very complicated fix. Make sure all of the debris from any previous failures is flushed out good . I've had 2 previous impellar failures that I will credit to running on muffs. i don't no why but 2 times it failed while running with garden hose turned wide open. I am not sure if to much pressure or what but 2 times it has failed while running on muffs. I'm not sure if it's because the inlet is normally under suction and hose positive pressure causes cavitiation in pump to make impellar fail or if it's over pressuring impellar or if it's just my luck and it fails in my driveway instead of on lake one other note both failures were no oem parts I'm sticking with oem parts from now on
