Just wondering how difficult it is to change a mechanical fuel pump on my boat? It looks pretty straight forward but I read something about a rod that you have to keep up while you put the new one on.

Pick up a little tube of assembly lube from an auto parts store. If the rod slides out you can put a little assembly lube on the end of it and the lube is sticky enough to hold the rod in place.

Pretty easy, the pump rod goes in/out with a cam lobe. If you happen to have stopped the engine with the rod all out, bump the starter (don't let it start, maybe pull coil wire) until the rod can be push back in. This makes it easier to change. If you happen to have stopped the engine in the up stroke, easy pezzy

Ok so we put the new pump on and it went pretty smoothly at a buddy's house. I forgot my muffs to try it but it doesn't suck any gas up when we hit the throttle. Shouldn't it still pump some gas or do u have to crank it. Thanks
