I am going to tuneup the ole' 5.7l Mercruiser but am running into a few problems and discrepancies. First, what do I need to replace (coil, wires, plugs, cap, rotor)? Where might I find these parts at a reasonable price? Second, the few sights I have found have the parts for the 5.7 but the numbers do not match. What gives? Please help and advise.

Spark plugs NGK BR6FS 8 of them. Distributor cap, rotor, trigger wheel,. A good set of 8 mm. wire set, water fuel separator, the fuel filter in the carb. Clean the spark arrestor. run a can of engine tuner thru it befor you change the spark plugs. Make sure the choke noy hung up and working free. You can buy sierra parts at napa auto parts store or your local boating supply store. Change the oil while you there. Sierra and napa offer 8 mm. wire sets both work well. The key to making an old engine run well is a good wire set. Paint the engines rust spots they always run better after you paint them.

Thanks Vinney. I am on the job. This should help me save enough money to have the power steering fixed. :)

If you have trouble getting the rotor off. Pry it off with two screwdrivers. With one on each side pry up under the sensor wheel. They are on there pretty tight.
