1997 bayliner ciera 2655, new to me, low use Michigan boat surges on plane for 1st 15 minutes then runs fine until the next cold start. I have fresh gas in it now with sea foam and new water/fuel filter. Any ideas?

welcome aboard

please tell us a bit more about your motor (serial numbers help)

is it Carb or EFI?

have you inspected the contents of the fuel filter? (check for water)

I believe it’s 210hp, 2bbl carb, Rochester I think, gen I mercruiser. I dumped the contents of the previous fuel/water filter in a glass jar and all I got was clean gas, previous owner said fuel was stabilized prior to off-season storage. Sorry I don’t have serial # at home to provide right now.

if its a carb, surging is normally gunk in the carb. you may want to consider getting a carb kit and going thru the carb.

Ok, that’s a good suggestion, a good ‘boat related’ winter project perhaps? If I end up screwing it up rebuilds are not ridiculously expensive, I’ve already bought two carbs this summer from a outfit in largo in your state. A quadrajet for a small block and a 2bbl for merc. 470, around $300. Per..
