Mercruiser 5.7 EFI engine stalling

Hi, I'm new so please forgive me if all information isn't here. Back in Feb. 16th 2016 Rossi 45 had a problem on his 1998 5.7 EFI engine that I have now. After warm up the engine stalls when put into gear. It acts normally when the ECT sensor is disconnected. What would happen if this sensor was left disconnected for a period of time?

And was that problem ever solved?

Get a multimeter and measure the resistance of the ECT. At a temperature of 25C (77F) it should read around 3.5k ohms. And at 70C (158F) it should be 470 ohms. ..
