I'm have symptoms of to much oil, not sure if my oil dip stick is the correct one for my engine. Does anyone know the correct length for a 2004 Mercruiser 5.0L MPI engine. I have good oil pressure, just over 40 most of the time. After going fast for awhile then back to idle, pressure goes down to about 20 or so. If I shut down and let everything cool down and restart its back to 40ish. Today I changed oil to Quicksilcver 25w 40 with new filter. It did the same but it very slowly came back up to 40ish while idling.

Do you have a Mercruiser Service manual ? For your engine, (I got the same one), at idle, oil pressure should be minimum of 4 psi. At 2000 rpm, it should be a minimum of 30 psi. I think your engine is just fine.

Crankcase oil capacity is 5.5 quarts, including the filter.

I have a Seloc repair manual and can't find the info in there. I've done lots of goggling and can't find dipstick length. Just trying to make sure oil level is correct. Engine runs good.

Hi there welcome to iboats!:)

You should be able to find the answer to your oil dipstick length question on page 3A-27.
Boatinfo - Mercruiser Service Manual nr. 31 - 2001-Up - 5.0L (305), 5.7L (350), and 6.2L (377) Engines

Oil capacity for older small block engine models. Boatinfo - Mercruiser Service Manual nr. 31 - 2001-Up - 5.0L (305), 5.7L (350), and 6.2L (377) Engines

Keeping in mind that there was a change in oil capacity somewhere around 2002.

No, you have a seloc knee pad....

HERE is a link to the proper manual...

Have a look at page 27 in Section 3A... It has the spec for the dipstick...
