MerCruiser 5.0 will not start/run in idle mode (Carb Engine)

MerCruiser 5.0 will not start/run in idle mode (Carb Engine). Recently the motor stalled and will not run in idle mode, it will start at high revs but when I place it in idle mode it will stall. I also discovered there is water mixed with the oil sump (the engine oil is milky as obtain from the dip stick). Prior to this issue the compression reported 150-180 PSI which is good. Any feedback will be appreciated; I will do another compression test, however form my experiences with motor vehicles the signs are pointing to cracked head gasket. If it is a head gasket, can you use a Head Gasket Repair Sealer or Block Sealer in Boats, if so how?

Probably have two problems off info given. Not sure what model or year 5.0 and what carb but assuming it is a mercarb 2 bbl

1. carb either needs adjustment or rebuild then adjustment. First verify choke is opening when warmed at fast idle. Would try turning idle mix screw in and out to see if it positively affects the idle, also adjust idle speed screw as maybe idle is set too low. Also possible carb is dirty and needs cleaning or rebuild

2. Water in oil - would start with pressure testing the cooling system to see if it holds pressure. Water can also get in oil leaking back from exhaust manifolds and from rotted out intake crossover. if you have a bad head gasket would show in low compression 150 is new compression spec. Dont waste your money on snake oil products just replace the head gasket. Was the engine overheated?

Noted about the Carb. I will check this out. I noticed a slight oil leak from this Disy prior to this issue.
The Dash Temperature gage reached about 200 (3/4), then I turned it off to let it cool. Two years ago, fully recondition engine was purchased from MerCruiser and swapped over through a dealer. I will do a pressure test of the cooling system, How can I check if oil is leaking back from the exhaust manifolds or rotter out intake crossover?

Ant temp over 190 is hot.

When was your impeller last changed.

Recheck your compression

If she’s suffered an overheat, you might have a head issue.
Otherwise head issues aren’t common.
What is common, is for the exhaust riser to allow water into engine. Either from a melted gasket or corrosion. But given the time of year…most common of all, might be if she wasn’t winterised and frost damaged here or at manifold

200 is getting hot. as others mentioned redo your compression test to see if you have a variance when when you did it before. Also fix the issues that led to overheat if not done.

Pressure test of cooling system you apply air pressure to the cooling side of the engine. You need to plug off your water flow in hose from drive, and the water to exhaust manifolds/elbows. You can use pipe fittings and rig up a place to put compressed air in and put a gauge on it. Pressurize with 15 psi and it should hold indefinitely. If it leaks down use the air to figure out where it is leaking. Depending on which cooling system used this could be relatively easy (3 plugs) or require a bunch of plugs.

Its water leaking out of the exhaust not oil. Due to cracks, corrosion, or gasket seal issues water from cooling jackets can leak back and end up in the oil by leaking into cylinders and past rings while engine sits. If you have milky oil but level isnt really rising while running I would look at this.

water cross over tends to rot below the thermostat, you can jank the thermostat housing and see.

You can also get water down the carb when in storage if not properly covered. Most people usually toss out the flame arrestor cover but it is there so water doesn't end up in carb or distributor.

WELL THE GASOLINE FUEL TANK/GAS FILTER/FUEL PUMP/CARB OFF TOP /BOWL/INSPECTED IT OF THE FLOAT ,,,THROTTLE BODY CLEANER OF THE CARB BOWL ..

ALSO THE OUTDRIVE WATER PUMP 2-3 YRS AGO CHANGED IT !
